Affiliate program is an easy addition to get extra income from your online website or e-commerce site. Compared to writing articles, designing layouts, getting traffic, signing up for an affiliate program seems that much easier. Or is it? Although affiliate program is easy to set up, you need to put in the effort in selecting the right affiliate program to join.
Firstly, ensure that there is compatibility in reaching the same or similar group of target readers. If your website is on fishing, you will probably want to sell an affiliate product on ‘fly fishing techniques for newbies’.
Secondly, examine the commission scheme. You want something that is lucrative to generate the most wealth for the effort put in. Do you want a commission based on sale or based on clicks to the seller’s website? Do check out tiered payment schemes as well, as you can get payment from your downstream sales as well.
Thirdly, do comparison of the commission size that you can get. You want to get the most money out of this, so put in some effort here to check out the competing affiliate programs and sites.
Fourthly, be familiar with the payment process. You don’t want to wait for a check to come to your mailbox when the seller has PayPal-ed it to you instead, and you end up creating a scene with the seller over nothing! Once you are clear on the process, do ensure compliance from the seller, else stop selling his or her product if payment is dubious.
Finally, do be patient in the whole process. Try it out on a small scale first to familiarize yourself with the whole affiliate marketing and payment processes. Feel free to ask the seller or affiliate program lots of questions to your doubts or to clear your confusions. You are your own best adviser, and nothing beats first hand experience coupled with testimonies from others.
